David Fizdale gaining ‘serious traction’ as potential Knicks head coach

The New York Knicks have cast a wide net that extends far beyond North America in their search to replace the recently fired Jeff Hornacek as head coach.

In no way does this mean that the Knicks won’t call on a familiar face in an attempt to keep their sinking ship afloat. Having already shown interest in former Memphis Grizzlies head man David Fizdale for the job, this one report from Yahoo! Sports NBA insider Shams Charania indicates that Fizdale himself is gaining “serious traction” to become the Knicks’ new head coach.

As most of you know, Fizdale was fired by Memphis after just 19 games this past regular season. It’s a move that didn’t sit well with many around the Association, the always opinionated LeBron James included.

A respected basketball mind, Fizdale lasted less than two full seasons as the Grizzlies’ head coach. He was nothing short of a fall guy for GM Chris Wallace and his failures in that role.

Prior to that, Fizdale served as an assistant coach for the Miami Heat for eight seasons and held the same role with both the Atlanta Hawks and Golden State Warriors earlier in his career.

With one candidate seemingly bowing out of the process, the two headliners for New York include Fizdale and former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach David Blatt. It doesn’t seem like they could go wrong with either man.
