Doesn’t sound like Mike Brown is leaving the Warriors for the Knicks’ head coaching job

Golden State Warriors assistant head coach Mike Brown is one of two members of Steve Kerr’s coaching staff that has drawn interest as a potential head coach this spring. In addition to Jarron Collins receiving interest from the Atlanta Hawks, Brown has reportedly interviewed for the New York Knicks’ vacancy.

In fact, the former Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers head coach confirmed these reports on Wednesday. That’s not really the story here. Instead, it’s Brown’s comments on the Knicks’ job and his happiness in Oakland that should raise some eyebrows.

“When you’re around sports, and you fall into a situation like this, woof. It’s hard to leave. It’s even hard to think about leaving,” Brown told 95.7 The Game in the Bay Area.

That could be seen as Brown being content in his role with the defending champs. Then again, it’s also a pretty big indictment on the long downtrodden Knicks organization. Remember, Kerr himself was choosing between the Warriors and Knicks back in 2015 before opting for Northern California over the Big Apple. Boy, how things have gone in vastly different directions for the two organizations since then.

With that said, Brown also did indicate he’d like to be a head coach again at some point.

“It’s still early in the process. I did talk to them but they’ve talked to a handful of people,” Brown continued. “One day, I’m not sure when that day is going to arrive, I’d like to be a head coach again.”

As Kerr’s right-hand man over the past two seasons, Brown seems happy to play it out until he finds a perfect situation. As for New York, the team has cast a wide net in its attempt to replace Jeff Hornacek as head coach. It’s just not as an attractive of a destination as most might initially think.
