Report: Baker Mayfield will be top-three pick

Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield in college football Week 2

Right now, there are a couple of players making more headlines than others as potential top picks in the upcoming 2018 NFL Draft. Baker Mayfield hasn’t been one of them, but according to a report by NFL insider Benjamin Allbright, he’s not expected to be around after the top-three picks.

Objectively speaking, if you remove the fact that Mayfield is barely taller than Russell Wilson, it wouldn’t be a shock to see him go No. 1 overall. He’s the most well-rounded, accomplished quarterback in this year’s draft class, and his stats in college — including accuracy numbers — far outclasses those of his peers.

There are a whole heck of a lot of smokescreens being thrown up right now by NFL teams and agents of prospects about to join them in the draft. So, take everything you read right now with a grain of salt.

That said, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard that Mayfield could go in the top three. In fact, it’s been reported that the New York Jets would rather take the 2017 Heisman winner than Josh Allen or Josh Rosen at No. 3 overall.

All we really know for certain is that the draft cannot get here soon enough. It’s going to set into motion events that will shape the league for years to come, and players’ lives will never be the same.
