Assuming Sam Darnold is already off the board when the New York Jets pick at No. 3 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft, many league insiders reportedly believe Gang Green would take Baker Mayfield over Josh Rosen and Josh Allen.
Tony Pauline of Draft Insider shared this insight on Tuesday.
“There’s a good number of league insiders who believe the New York Jets will use the third pick of the draft to select quarterback Baker Mayfield of Oklahoma. This assumes Sam Darnold is already gone when the Jets are called to the clock.”
Pauline notes that this is “not set in stone” but is what people are reading from what’s coming out of the franchise. He further states, “I’ll go on record and say passing up Josh Rosen or Josh Allen in favor of Mayfield would be a colossal mistake by the Jets in my opinion.”
For the record, this scribe believes taking Allen would be a colossal mistake at No. 3. Everyone’s got an opinion, though. The only thing that matters in the end is that the Jets land a long-term solution to the biggest problem they have.
