Report: Celtics would consider trading Marcus Smart for a first-round pick

Marcus Smart

The Boston Celtics are reportedly looking into moving guard Marcus Smart, if they can lure a team into a trade that involves a first-round pick in exchange.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, speaking on a podcast with Bobby Marks, reported the following: “You talk about Marcus Smart, he’s a player that’s available for a first-round pick. If a team was willing to give Boston a first, Boston would look at,” Wojnarowski said. “If they didn’t have to take back a lot of money going out in the future. He’s restricted this summer, you don’t know what it will cost to keep him.”

Of course, Smart might be in the doghouse right now due to the fact he lacerated his hand taking a swipe at a picture frame recently. He was forced out of action for two weeks due to that tantrum, putting himself ahead of his teammates.

When healthy, Smart is a very solid player, however, and could potentially draw interest. This season, he is averaging 10.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game averaging around 30 minutes per night.
