Rex Ryan takes savage shot at Geno Smith: ‘That chin’s a little soft’

Rex Ryan

Geno Smith and Rex Ryan have been engaged in a battle of words recently, and the former head coach did his best to get in the last shot Sunday.

It all started before Smith started for the New York Giants instead of Eli Manning in Week 13. Ryan said of Smith, “I love Geno Smith. Great guy. I just don’t want him playing quarterback for me.”

Smith pointed out that (in his eyes) he saved Ryan’s job back in 2013 with the New York Jets and called the coach a “coward.” Then he apologized for his remarks after the game and tried to put it all behind him.

Ryan wasn’t going to let him off that easy.

For those who need a history lesson as to why this comment is salient, Ryan is taking a savage shot at Smith, who had his jaw broken by former Jets linebacker I.K. Enemkpali back in 2015. That proved to be the beginning of the end for Smith as a potential starting quarterback in the NFL.

So, this is a very pointed remark that will sting. Though, perhaps Ryan’s later comments about Enemkpali should have clued us in about how he really felt about Smith at the time.
