Geno Smith on ‘coward’ Rex Ryan: ‘I saved his job in 2013’

New York Giants quarterback Geno Smith is reeling after losing his first start as a member of the team on Sunday to the Oakand Raiders.

Smith was called on to replace the “benched” Eli Manning this week, and proceeded to lose two fumbles in the 24-17 loss.

Following the loss in Oakland, the former second-round bust of the Jets took a major shot at his first NFL head coach, Rex Ryan.

Smith did not mince words in any way.

“I did see one of my ex-coaches say he didn’t want me to be his quarterback,” Smith said following Sunday’s game, via Pro Football Talk. “That really upset me. I saved his job in 2013. We fought our a** for him both years. For him to say that shows how much of a coward he is.”

This was in response to Ryan indicating earlier on Sunday that he doesn’t want Smith playing quarterback for him.

The good news for Ryan is that he’s actually not in a position for Smith to play quarterback unless it’s part of a flag football game for ESPN personalities. We guess that’s also good news for Smith himself.

The 2013 season Smith is talking about saw him finish with an 8-8 record as a rookie starting quarterback for the Jets. Though, that very same season also saw the West Virginia product throw 12 touchdowns compared to 21 interceptions.

Apparently, Smith has an inflated sense of himself. In this, he should actually be best buds with Ryan.
