In addition to hip-hop mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, another well-known figure is exploring buying the Carolina Panthers. Former San Francisco 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo.

Per Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, DeBartolo has said that he intends to “respect Jerry Richardson’s wish to not discuss the sale of the Carolina Panthers until after their season is over.”

However, a report from Jim Trotter of ESPN says that he’s interested in the purchase.

Richardson, who’s currently under an NFL investigation for alleged workplace misconduct, announced on Sunday that he will put the Panthers up for sale when the season ends.

DeBartolo owned the 49ers until from 1977 until 2000, when he ceded control of the franchise to his sister, Denise York. Under DeBartolo’s watch, the 49ers won 13 NFC West titles, made 16 playoff appearances, won five NFC Championships, and won the Super Bowl each time.
