Report: Raiders CB Sean Smith pleads not guilty to felony assault

Oakland Raiders cornerback Sean Smith

Oakland Raiders cornerback Sean Smith was in court Friday morning and reportedly pleaded not guilty for felony assault.

The charges Smith is in court about — felony assault and and felony battery with serious bodily injury — stem from an alleged attack on July 4 this year. Smith has been accused of allegedly stomping and beating up his sister’s boyfriend.

If he is found guilty, Smith faces a maximum of seven years in prison, per TMZ Sports, which reported Smith’s not guilty plea.

The Raiders signed Smith to a four-year, $40 million contract last year. However, his starting job was in jeopardy this summer after an underwhelming 2016 campaign, and he did not play in Week 2.

It’s safe to wonder if the former Kansas City Chiefs defensive back will be on his way out if he is either convicted of a crime and/or continues to struggle on the field.
