Things are sure to heat up this summer when all of the Denver Broncos running backs (young and old) will compete for the starting job.

“Every spot on the football team is going to be up for competition,” Joseph stated, via Troy Renck of Denver7. “The running back position — you need two or three guys who could carry the load. It’s no longer a one-guy position. I’m excited to have Jamaal, C.J., Book, even De’Angelo in the mix there. It’s a good group, it’s going to be competitive, and that’s the way it should be.”

Last season, Anderson opened as the Broncos’ lead running back only to suffer a season-ending injury in Week 7. He is now back to practicing.

In his absence, rookie Devontae Booker primarily filled in. Though, he didn’t quite make explosion many thought he would as the lead ball carrier.

In need of more depth, the team signed 30-year-old, four-time Pro Bowler Jamaal Charles. Charles has played all of eight games over the past two seasons due to various lingering injuries. He will be out to prove himself after signing a contract that guarantees him zero money.

Per the report, the Broncos are expected to hold Charles out of practice until training camp. This is in precaution to his previous knee surgeries.

Lastly, the Broncos even appear to have rookie De’Angelo Henderson in the mix.

In addition to the running back competition, quarterbacks Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch will compete for the starting job.

Talk about several players having to really shine in front of all the right eyes this summer.
