Hue Jackson: ‘I haven’t even opened the bag of tricks yet’

Hue Jackson Cleveland Browns NFL coaches

The Cleveland Browns are 0-12 on the season. They’re four losses away from joining the 2008 Detroit Lions as the only 0-16 teams in NFL history.

But don’t worry, first-year head coach Hue Jackson is on the job. He’s prepared to actually do whatever it takes to win a game.

Wait here one darn second.

If Jackson hasn’t utilized the entire playbook during the Browns’ first 12 losses of the season, what the heck has he been waiting for?

We know Terrelle Pryor had playoff aspirations earlier in the season. As ridiculous as that might have sounded, this one quote from Jackson absolutely takes the cake.

What is the reasoning behind Jackson holding back his playbook? What exactly is he waiting for? Maybe he just wants to set the football world on fire by throwing everything out there in Week 17 against the Pittsburgh Steelers to see what sticks.

It really is baffling.

Playoff contenders tend not to open up their entire playbook until late in the season. We will see new wrinkles from the likes of the New England Patriots, Oakland Raiders and Dallas Cowboys come January.

That’s fine and dandy. However, Jackson and the Browns aren’t afforded that luxury. If the team is really hellbent on avoiding an 0-16 season, maybe the head coach might want to actually utilize his entire playbook. Just a thought.
