Colin Kaepernick expected to start Thursday for the 49ers

Colin Kaepernick

San Francisco 49ers head coach Chip Kelly must have channeled his inner Rex Ryan when he came up with this conclusion regarding his quarterback situation.

Apparently, the 49ers are going to give their embattled quarterback another opportunity to prove himself.

The hope here is that Kaepernick will perform at a higher level in his start Thursday than what we saw during the quarterback’s preseason debut last week. He completed just 2-of-6 passes for 14 yards against the Denver Broncos.

That came immediately prior to the drama we’ve seen surround Kaepernick since. The embattled signal caller refused to stand for the national anthem as a way to protest the treatment of African Americans in society today.

For his part, Kaepernick has made it clear that he will continue to sit until he sees changes in America. Yeah, Thursday night in San Diego promises to be filled with a ton of intrigue.

On the field, this is Kaepernick’s final opportunity to prove himself worthy of the starting job. Though, that seems like a major long shot at this point.
