New York Yankees left-hander Nestor Cortes was placed back on the injured list Friday, with his latest stretch of downtime coming because of more issues with his left rotator cuff.

The Yankees recalled right-handers Jhony Brito and Randy Vasquez. A second roster spot was available after left-hander Nick Ramirez was optioned to Triple-A on Thursday.

Cortes’ move back to the IL comes less than one week after he was activated from the 60-day IL because of a strained rotator cuff. He gave up one run on one hit over four innings with one walk and eight strikeouts against the Houston Astros on Aug. 5.

Cortes, 28, is 5-2 with a 4.97 ERA in 12 starts for the Yankees this season. In six seasons with the Baltimore Orioles (2018), Yankees (2019, 2021-23) and Seattle Mariners (2020), Cortes is 24-11 with a 3.82 ERA in 104 appearances (56 starts).

Brito, 25, made his major league debut April 2 and has gone 4-5 with a 5.02 ERA in 14 appearances (12 starts) with the Yankees this season.

Vasquez, 24, was scheduled to start Friday’s game against the Miami Marlins. He made his major league debut with the Yankees on May 26 and has gone 1-1 with a 1.17 ERA in three starts this season.

Ramirez, 34, was 0-2 with a 2.67 ERA in 26 relief appearances for the Yankees this season. In four seasons for the Detroit Tigers (2019-20), San Diego Padres (2021) and Yankees, he is 6-7 with a 4.12 ERA in 90 relief outings.
