St. Louis Cardinals sign legend Yadier Molina to one-year, $10 million extension

MLB: St. Louis Cardinals at Kansas City Royals

One of the greatest catches in MLB history will remain with the St. Louis Cardinals for a 19th season. Multiple media reports indicate that Yadier Molina has signed a one-year, $10 million extension through the 2021 campaign.

Katie Woo of The Athletic was the first to report the news.

There was a ton of talk that the two sides had been engaging in contract talks with Yadier Molina previously set to his free agency this coming winter. That’s obviously no longer going to be the case.

Molina, 39, began his professional career as a fourth-round pick of the Cardinals all the way back in 2000. He made it to the bigs in 2004, and the rest is pretty much history.

During his stint with the Redbirds, Molina has earned 10 All-Star appearances and nine Gold Glove awards. He’s helped lead the team to two World Series titles, continuing to show himself to be among the greatest players in franchise history.

For his career, the Puerto Rico native has hit .280 with 168 homers and 983 RBI.
