When you’re a small school like Wyoming going up against a big program like Iowa, you need all the little things to go your way to pull off the upset. Cowboys quarterback Josh Allen provided an early example of what that looks like when he helped create the game’s first points. Later in the second quarter, however, Wyoming punter Tim Zaleski did quite the opposite.
This whiff cost the Cowboys dearly. Down by just four points when it happened, they watched as the Hawkeyes scored a touchdown on the very next play following the botched punt attempt. Suddenly, they were in a 14-3 hole at halftime, on the road in a very hostile environment.
