Following his shocking win over Devin Haney in April, the options for Ryan Garcia’s next fight seem endless and his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, believes a super-fight with pound-for-pound superstar Terence Crawford could be an option later this year.

Ryan Garcia was already a star in the sport of boxing before he returned to the ring to face Devin Haney. However, his destructive loss to Gervonta Davis last year damaged his prospects as a future pound-for-pound face of the sport. However, his victory over the WBC super lightweight king sent reverberations throughout the industry.

Not only was “King Ry” a popular fighter with young fans, but he proved he did indeed have the talent to be one of the pound-for-pound best in the world. It gives his promoter, and boxing legend, Oscar De La Hoya some very interesting routes to go with the crown jewel of Golden Boy Promotions.

During a conversation this week with Sportsnaut, to talk Golden Boy’s new partnership with El Rey Rebel Fast Channel for a new “Friday Night Fights” series that will kick off on May 3 at 8 PM ET, he was asked about what could be next for Garcia. And he offered some mouthwater possibilities, including a potential clash with WBA, WBC, and WBO welterweight kingpin Terence Crawford.

Oscar De La Hoya will meet with Ryan Garcia and plot out his next fight sometime next week

“Ryan Garcia mentioned that he wants to fight anybody from 140 all the way up to 154. There’s [Isaac Cruz], there’s Teofimo Lopez, there’s a lot of fighters. [Jaron] “Boots” Ennis, who’s a great fighter. Great champion. There’s a lot of great fights that we can make.

“Terence Crawford, another one at 147 or 154. That’s the beauty about Ryan. Now, he is the man. Now, he can call the shots. He can fight at 140 or 154. So he’s going to pick and choose between who he wants to fight. I will sit down with him after [Canelo Alvarez vs. Jaime Mungia] Saturday night, then we’ll map out the next fight.”

While he would again be a huge underdog against “Bud” a Crawford vs. Garcia matchup would easily be one of the biggest fights of 2024 if it could happen in the fourth quarter of this year. Crawford returns to action in August to face Ismail Madrimov.
