Shelby Rogers got the best of Claire Liu in an all-American battle on Monday, earning a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the first round of the Credit One Charleston Open in Charleston, S.C.

It took Rogers just 73 minutes to record the sweep. Liu won the first game of both sets, but Rogers answered with six straight wins each time.

Rogers wasn’t the only American to come out on top in straight sets, as Amanda Anisimova ousted Alize Cornet of France 6-3, 6-0. Anisimova will face countrywoman and No. 1 seed Jessica Pegula in the second round.

A third American, Katie Volynets, also advanced, but Sachia Vickery, McCartney Kessler and Clervie Ngounoue were unable to, spoiling a perfect showing by the United States. Other winners included Australian Daria Saville, Viktoriya Tomova of Bulgaria and Poland’s Magda Linette.

Mexican Renata Zarazua put together an absolutely dominating performance, crushing Mariana Isabel Higuita Barraza of Colombia 6-0, 6-0 in first-round action at Bogota, Colombia.

Zarazua won 17 of 19 first-serve points en route to the 49-minute victory over Higuita Barraza, who was making her WTA Tour debut at just 16 years old.

Either Colombia’s Valentina Mediorreal Arias or eighth-seeded Russian Kamilla Rakhimova will face Zarazua in the second round.
