Wrongful death lawsuit filed against Charlotte Hornets’ Brandon Miller

Former Alabama basketball star Brandon Miller is under the microscope again after the family of a woman killed in a Tuscaloosa shooting filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Charlotte Hornets’ rookie.

Miller, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, is one of three individuals named in the new lawsuit. The two others also played basketball at Alabama, with Darius Miles and Michael Davis currently facing capital murder charges for shooting Jamea Harris in January.

This latest lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court and is demanding a jury trial to determine the total damages. The lawsuit alleges that Miller and the others “should have known bringing a dangerous weapon to a dispute and discharging said weapon would likely result in harm.”

In February, a police investigator testified that Miller had been at the scene at the time of the killing, but Miller’s attorney has since refuted these claims, stating his client had “no knowledge of any intent to use the weapon” and that he never touched the gun nor was he involved in its exchange or did he know that illegal activity involving the gun would occur.”

Meanwhile, Harris’ family is seeking the truth of what led to the death of the 23-year-old woman.

“They would like to hear testimony from all three of the young men involved concerning what they did, said and saw. The family would like the opportunity, through their attorneys, to investigate why and how the gun was brought to the scene of a confrontation that resulted in the death of their daughter. Once we have had the opportunity to evaluate the evidence in the case, we can make decisions about the degree of culpability, if any, of each.”

Harris family seeks answers

Miller has already addressed the incident, back in March.

“I never lose sight of the fact that a family lost one of their loved ones that night. This whole situation is just really heartbreaking.”
