It took him eight at-bats. But New York Mets prospect Tim Tebow finally has himself a batting average in Grapefruit League play.

In the fourth inning of Monday’s game with the Boston Red Sox, Tebow blooped a ball into the outfield off of pitcher Mike Shawaryn. It fell just beyond the reach of centerfielder Gorkys Hernandez, landing for a single.

Per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, Tebow was 1-for-18 in Grapefruit League action a season ago. So, while he’ll need to do more to ever fulfill the MLB aspirations, Tebow is making progress.

In this case, Hernandez had Tebow shaded to the left field side of second. Tebow took advantage. While it may not look like much, hitting away from the defense is always good to see.
