Phil Jurkovec passed for 303 yards and three touchdowns, Zay Flowers caught seven passes for 135 yards and a score and Boston College routed Colgate 51-0 to open its season on Saturday afternoon.

Jurkovec, who began his second season under center after transferring from Notre Dame before the 2020 season, completed 16 of 24 passes while rushing for a game-high 61 yards on five carries.

Boston College (1-0) totaled 523 yards after entering as a 42 1/2-point favorite in its first-ever meeting with Colgate (0-1). It was the Eagles’ highest scoring output since a 58-27 blowout win at Syracuse on Nov. 2, 2019.

Grant Breneman had 77 yards and two interceptions on 9-of-16 passing for the Raiders. It was Colgate’s first game under new coach Stan Dakosty, who was elevated from interim status after Dan Hunt stepped down in May due to a violation of school policy.

BC led 27-0 at halftime after getting off to a slow start in the first quarter.

Travis Levy’s three-yard touchdown run capped a seven-play, 75-yard drive to put BC up 7-0 with 12:40 to go in the first. Colgate held serve for the remainder of the quarter, outgaining the Eagles 80-20 in total yardage during that span.

Jurkovec made it 14-0 early in the second with a 51-yard touchdown pass to Trae Barry, who scored after a highlight-reel hurdle over a defender at the 10 yard line. Jurkovec later connected with Flowers on a 31-yard deep route with 7:42 left to make it 20-0.

Jaden Williams’ 10-yard TD grab from Jurkovec with 1:20 remaining capped a 20-point quarter for BC that saw the Eagles outgain the visitors 199-26.

The Eagles outscored the Raiders 24-0 after halftime.
