We can count on one hand the amount of times a national anthem performance has given us chills. There’s the Whitney Houston performance prior to Super Bowl XXV. Operatic singer Jim Cornelison gives this one scribe chills every time he performs it. Heck, Carrie Underwood has proven to be amazing with her renditions.

Though, the performance we saw from jazz legend Mike Phillips prior to the Seattle Seahawks and Atlanta Falcons playoff game at the Georgia Dome was otherworldly.

By that, we mean amazing.

Listen to Phillips absolutely kill his rendition on the sax. Not only was this brilliant, it was about as original as it gets.

If you didn’t have chills listening to this, we’re not too sure what to tell you.
