LeBron James played his first preseason game as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers this past Sunday night. The game was considered a home date, but it took place in San Diego.
Tuesday night represents James’ first game as a member of the Lakers at the Staples Center. And if the ovation he received is any indication, King James is already a god-like figure in Hollywood.

James’ decision to sign with Los Angeles changed the entire dynamic of the NBA. While his Lakers are unlikely to be serious title contenders, they are relevant once again. That’s no small thing given the Los Angeles market and the Lakers’ heralded history.
The NBA is just better when the Lakers are relevant. Based on the applause James received, fans in Southern California are going to make sure that remains the case.
