Warriors GM: Getting Steve Kerr healthy ‘is the focus right now’

Steve Kerr

The Golden State Warriors are on the march to a title right now. After torching the Portland Trail Blazers in four games, they have a solid chance to become the first team ever to go undefeated in the postseason. Yet, that’s not the focus for general manager Bob Myers, whose attention is on head coach Steve Kerr.

Kerr, who has suffered blinding headaches and fatigue since having back surgery nearly two years ago, is away from the sideline right now dealing with his personal health.

“The focus is not our team, it’s really [Kerr]. The team’s gonna keep moving, that stuff keeps going. But getting Steve healthy is the focus right now,” said Myers, via the Jim Rome Show.

This is the right attitude to have. The health of individuals should come before the success of the team, because the team, however vaunted, is an article of clothing which happens to be trademarked. In reality, all of this is arbitrary, and instances such as what is happening with Kerr serve to remind us of that.

It’s good to see Myers prioritizing Kerr’s health and, hopefully, he would do the same if it was a player. The show will go on, and the Warriors will probably continue to advance. There’s no rush, and there shouldn’t be, to get Kerr back on the sidelines.
