Vernon Davis Believes Jimmy Graham Deserves More Money

New Orleans Saints’ tight end Jimmy Graham has a grievance hearing scheduled for June 17 and 18 to have a third-party arbitrator hear arguments to to determine if Graham should be considered as a wide receiver instead of a tight end. Vernon Davis of the San Francisco 49ers believes Graham is worth more than just tight end money.

Davis had this to say, via ESPN..

I think Jimmy Graham is trying to make an informed decision as far as his contract. He believes that he deserves more, and I believe that he deserves more,” Davis said when asked during a “SportsCenter” interview Thursday about the franchise-tag grievance that Graham filed. He’s just a wonderful presence. He’s a great player. He has a lot of potential to go above and beyond and just go further. He is one of those guys that is a part of that TE position that are changing the game — Antonio Gates, Jimmy Graham, [Rob] Gronkowski.

Those guys are some fantastic players. If it was me, if I was the owner of the team, I would give the kid everything he wants because he’s that.

Graham lined up as a wide receiver or slot receiver in 67 percent of his snaps in 2013. A one-year franchise tag salary for tight ends is $7.035 million versus that of a wide receiver at $12.3 million. The difference, obviously is over $5 million, which is absolutely worth fighting for in Graham’s case.

Davis, who is a potential training camp holdout in San Francisco, had an interesting response when asked about whether he should be paid as a wide receiver..

I can’t speak for myself. I’ll let everybody else do that.
