The Minnesota Twins reinstated right-hander Cole Sands from the 15-day injured list Thursday.

Sands, 25, missed the last 14 games with a right elbow contusion suffered when he was hit by a line drive on Aug. 23 at Houston.

He made two rehab appearances at Triple-A St. Paul, allowing three runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings.

Sands is 0-3 with a 6.56 ERA in nine games (three starts) this season with the Twins.

Minnesota designated left-hander Austin Davis for release or assignment in a corresponding move.

The Twins also returned righty Louis Varland to St. Paul after serving as the 29th man for Wednesday’s doubleheader with the New York Yankees.
