Trouble In Paradise For Matt Harvey And The Mets?

Matt Harvey just underwent Tommy John surgery in October, so the Mets’ organization seems to want him to stay in Florida once the season starts. Perhaps on extended Spring Training? Harvey had his first throwing session post-surgery back in February where he made 20 throws from a distance of 60 feet and said he felt good about it.

“I have worked so hard to get to the point where I was, and all of a sudden I get hurt, and it’s ‘you’ve got to stay in Florida. You’ve got to disappear from New York, you’ve got to do this.’ I took pride in living in New York, and being a New Yorker. I live there all year round. It’s a place I love being,” says Harvey.

It’s not a rare thing for anyone to feel nervous about someone who has just had any type of surgery. However, when Tommy John surgery comes in to play, take a look at the history. Some players come back better than ever.

“For me, I strongly felt that my best opportunity, and my motivation to come back quicker, stronger, work harder would be to be with the teammate,” adds Harvey.

Harvey is also very young. At 24, he concluded 2013 with a 9-5 record. In 178.1 innings pitched, he accumulated a 2.27 ERA and 131 strike-outs.

No psychic can determine how he will do this season. I think Mets fans are just praying he comes back healthy and performs as well as he did last season.
