Rumors around the NBA world have linked the Indiana Pacers to a blockbuster trade for two-time Toronto Raptors All-Star forward Pascal Siakam.
While rumors are widespread with less than a month to go before the NBA trade deadline, we now have a concrete report on Siakam potentially heading to Indiana.
Shams Charania of The Athletic reports that the two sides are actively engaged in trade talks surrounding the 29-year-old forward.
“The Raptors have been engaged in discussions with several teams on a potential Siakam deal, but conversations with the Pacers have gained steam in recent days, those sources say. Sources briefed on the talks between the two teams say that there have been several back-and-forth proposals made. While the two sides have been described as being far along in the process, according to those sources, they have yet to finalize or agree to a deal.”

Giving up three first-round picks for a 29-year-old who will be a free agent this summer isn’t ideal. Given that Siakam is not looking to sign an extension before hitting the open market, that’s magnified further.
From Toronto’s perspective, it makes perfect sense for the team to move off Siakam and get a nice bounty for the two-time All-Star. The Raptors entered Tuesday’s NBA action with a 15-25 record. They also sent away fellow star forward OG Anunoby to the New York Knicks in a blockbuster trade late last month. A rebuild is in the cards.

From an on-court standpoint, Siakam would be a great fit for the surprising 23-17 Pacers. He’d team up with Myles Turner inside to provide balance with star point guard Tyrese Haliburton.
