For a weather update.
Yes, you read that right. ABC affiliate WENY in southern New York and northern Pennsylvania cut out of the final six minutes of the World Cup Final between Germany and Argentina on Sunday to provide its viewers with a tornado warning update.
It was immediately after Germany scored the eventual match-winning goal about 114 minutes into the final.
Needless to say, reaction wasn’t necessarily too positive from the viewers (h/t Deadspin).

In defense of the station, the update was needed.

Catching the end of the World Cup or facing the possibility of missing out on a tornado warning. I’ll take the former for $100, Alex.
Here is the video of when it cut out.
