Steve Smith Sr. to join CBS ‘NFL Today’ pregame show Sunday

Steve Smith

Steve Smith Sr. is currently rehabbing from a season-ending Achilles injury, but the Baltimore Ravens wide receiver will return to the television on Sunday.

According to Clifton Brown of Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic, Smith will be a guest analyst on CBS pregame show NFL Today.

Smith will join the crew of James Brown, Bill Cowher, Tony Gonzalez, Boomer Esiason and Bart Scott and provide insight for the Week 16 slate, but there’s one big topic on our minds, at least.

Will the veteran receiver announce he plans to return in 2016?

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport said Smith is expected back for another season if he’s healthy, though the 36-year-old wideout suggested that isn’t a sure thing.

Regardless, perhaps Smith is simply going on NFL Today to gain some more experience in what could be his next job after retiring. During the 2015 offseason, Smith was a part of the SiriusXM NFL radio team.

Field experience is undoubtedly useful, but many viewers — particularly Ravens fans — will be hoping there’s an ulterior motive to Smith appearing on the pregame show.
