The Pittsburgh Steelers placed linebacker Cole Holcomb on injured reserve and activated running back Anthony McFarland from IR on Monday.

Holcomb, 27, sustained a season-ending knee injury during Thursday night’s 20-16 victory against the Tennessee Titans. He was carted off the field in the first quarter and was hospitalized overnight.

Holcomb, who signed a three-year, $18 million deal in free agency in March, finished his first season in Pittsburgh with 54 tackles, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery in eight starts.

The 2019 fifth-round pick has 442 tackles, 4.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles and three interceptions in 58 games (56 starts) with Washington (2019-22) and the Steelers.

McFarland, 24, was added to the active roster on Monday after missing the past six games with a knee injury. He returned to practice last month.

A fourth-round pick by Pittsburgh in 2020, McFarland has two receptions for 11 yards and three kickoff returns for 91 yards in two games this season.
