San Francisco 49ers’ CB Eric Wright Retiring?

This could be a major blow to the San Francisco 49ers cornerback depth. According to local reports out of San Francisco, cornerback Eric Wright might very well be on the verge of retiring.

Wright played in just seven games for the 49ers last season, but was expected to challenge for a nickel/slot position in 2014, especially with the departures of Tarell Brown and Carlos Rogers to the Oakland Raiders in the offseason.

It’s a less-than-ideal situation for a team that is already thin at the cornerback position. the 49ers, who have some youngsters potentially ready to step up, may now be forced to hit the veteran free agent market in search of another option.

Chris Culliver and Tramaine Brock are slated to start on the outside with Darryl Morris, Chris Cook, Perrish Cox and rookie Jimmie Ward vying for the primary slot position.
