Richard Sherman cleared to practice, earns $2 million bonus

The San Francisco 49ers will have veteran cornerback Richard Sherman on the practice field at the start of training camp.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters Wednesday that Sherman is cleared to practice, starting Thursday, and that he’ll be on a two-days-on, one-day-off schedule this summer.

This is obviously tremendously positive for both Sherman and the 49ers, as it shows Sherman has suffered no setbacks at all in his recovery from an Achilles tear and subsequent secondary surgery to remove bone spurs this past spring.

It also means Sherman earns his $2 million bonus for starting camp healthy.

Getting Sherman back healthy in time for camp has been the plan all along for San Francisco.

Provided he stays healthy this summer and fall, he’ll obviously be an impact player for the 49ers, both as a primary defender on the perimeter and as a coach on the field to the young players he’ll be tutoring in that secondary.
