Reuben Foster will not participate in 49ers workouts as legal process plays out

The San Francisco 49ers aren’t releasing Reuben Foster at this time, but following alarming allegations leveled against him involving felony domestic assault charges he will not participate in team activities while his legal situation plays out.

The 49ers released a short statement on this matter Sunday evening.

Foster is accused of dragging his live-in girlfriend by the hair, hitting her in the head between eight and 10 times and rupturing her eardrum. Previously, he had been arrested on marijuana charges during a visit to Alabama.

49ers owner Jed York recently made it clear that Foster’s tenure with the 49ers was in peril, but to this point the team is taking a wait-and-see approach to the young linebacker’s future.

San Francisco moved back up into the first round to select Foster 31st overall last year. As a rookie, he started started 10 games, making 72 tackles.
