Old Dominion will introduce Maryland assistant coach Mike Jones as the program’s next head coach at a press conference Friday, multiple reports said Thursday.

Jones is an Old Dominion alum who has spent his entire coaching career in Maryland and Virginia.

He spent 20 years as the head coach of DeMatha High School in Maryland, where he helmed eight Washington Catholic Athletic Conference titles and coached nine players who reached the NBA.

In 2021 Jones made the leap to the college ranks, joining Virginia Tech as the associate head coach. This was Jones’ first season on Kevin Willard’s staff at Maryland.

Jones will take the place of Jeff Jones (no relation), who retired Monday after spending 11 seasons coaching Old Dominion. Jeff Jones took a leave of absence in January due to multiple health issues.
