Reports: Mavs acquiring F/C P.J. Washington from Hornets

The Dallas Mavericks are acquiring forward/center P.J. Washington from the Charlotte Hornets, ESPN and The Athletic reported Thursday.

Dallas will send forward Grant Williams, guard Seth Curry and a 2027 first-round draft pick to the Hornets, per the reports. The Athletic reported that Charlotte also will send two second-round picks to the Mavericks as part of the deal.

Washington, 25, appeared in 44 games (17 starts) for the Hornets this season. He is averaging 13.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists while shooting 44.6 percent from the field and 32.4 percent from beyond the arc.

In five NBA seasons, all with Charlotte, Washington boasts career averages of 13.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists across 304 games (236 starts). The Hornets selected him with the 12th overall pick of the 2019 draft.

Williams, also 25, was in his first season with Dallas after spending the first four campaigns of his career with the Boston Celtics. With the Mavericks, he averaged 8.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 47 games (33 starts).

A first-round draft pick by Boston in 2019, Williams has averaged 6.4 points and 3.5 rebounds in 335 career games (91 starts).

The 33-year-old Curry is averaging 4.3 points and 1.4 rebounds this season. He played in 36 games (three starts) for Dallas in 2023-24.

In 474 career games (209 starts) with the Mavericks, Philadelphia 76ers, Brooklyn Nets, Portland Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings, Phoenix Suns, Cleveland Cavaliers and Memphis Grizzlies, Curry has averaged 10.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists. He is shooting 43.2 percent from 3-point range in his career.
