Report: Washington Redskins not looking to trade Robert Griffin III

The Washington Redskins reportedly have no intention of trading embattled quarterback Robert Griffin III.

Despite the fact that RG3 is setting Washington back by over $6.7 million this year to be the team’s third-string quarterback, general manager Scot McCloughan isn’t looking to trade the signal-caller, Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports. Apparently, despite all evidence to the contrary, the team hasn’t lost hope in him.

Scot does not want to trade him,” said a source. “He really doesn’t. That’s not something he is even thinking about. He’s still getting to learn about him and what he can do and what he’s all about. This kid was the 2012 Rookie of the Year for a reason and you don’t just fall into that stuff. He’s not giving up hope on him.”

One wonders if perhaps the team has been tickling the ears of other decision-makers around the NFL for potential trade partners and nothing has developed.

Washington has appeared to be completely finished with RG3 since preseason, and many rumors have emerged to support that theory. At one point, ESPN’s Ed Werder reported McCloughan as “determined to change team culture and must move on” from Griffin III.

No doubt, this story has a few more twists and turns down the road before it’s finished. For now, however, it appears Washington is content to let things continue to simmer while Kirk Cousins sets new precedents for throwing interceptions and RG3 waltzes along the sidelines in street clothes.
