Report: Stephen Strasburg expected to be ready for spring training

The Washington Nationals missed Stephen Strasburg at the end of the 2016 regular season and through the playoffs. But the star pitcher will be back in 2017.

This is certainly good news for the Nationals. While Strasburg’s injury didn’t appear to be one that would keep him out into 2017, he made three different trips to the DL in 2016. That’s always a cause for concern, especially when a player has Strasburg’s injury history.

Strasburg finished 2016 with a 15-4 record in 24 starts. In 147.2 innings, he accrued a 3.60 ERA, 1.104 WHIP and struck out 183 batters. While he didn’t pitch in the game, Strasburg was also named to the National League All-Star team for the second time in his career.

Strasburg also inked a seven-year, $175 million contract extension in May.
