Report: Steelers sign WR Justin Hunter

The Pittsburgh Steelers made their first outside free agency signing of the 2017 season, bringing speedy receiver Justin Hunter into the fold.

If any team is going to help Hunter reach what has long been considered to be very considerable potential, it’s the Steelers.

Having just lost Markus Wheaton to the Chicago Bears, Pittsburgh had an opening at the position. At the least, Hunter will provide depth, and at best he has a chance to experience a big boost in production playing with the likes of Ben Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown, Eli Rogers and Darrius Heyward-Bey.

Hunter is one of the most dangerous deep threats in the NFL, having averaged 16.7 yards per catch during the course of his four-year career. He hasn’t ever been consistent enough to make a prolonged impact, catching just 78 passes in those four seasons. Though, it’s worth pointing out that 12 of them went for touchdowns, further highlighting his big-play abilities.

Originally a second-round pick out of Tennessee by the Tennessee Titans, Hunter has also played for the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins.
