Report: Seahawks and Dolphins discussed Richard Sherman trade

Richard Sherman

All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman suited up for his Seattle Seahawks in Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers. It was in no way an odd sight for fans in the Pacific Northwest. But it also wasn’t a foregone conclusion that this would be the case.

Despite proving himself to be among the top cover corners in modern NFL history, Sherman found himself on the trade block during the offseason.

While nothing came to fruition on that front, this one reports suggests that Seattle had talks with the Miami Dolphins in a deal that would have sent Sherman to South Bech in exchange for a package including wide receiver Jarvis Landry.

“We’re told by someone briefed on the situation that the Dolphins and Seahawks discussed cornerback Richard Sherman earlier this offseason, and Jarvis Landry’s name was raised,” the Miami Herald‘s Barry Jackson reported Wednesday.

Now, that would have been one blockbuster of a swap right there. For his part, Landry’s name came up in trade possibilities prior to the start of the regular season.

Currently playing under a four-year, $56 million deal, Sherman has to be feeling a bit undervalued. Then again, Seattle must look to the future here. Sherman is 29 years old and saw slight regression last season.

It will be interesting to see if these trade rumors come back up prior to the deadline this fall or following the 2017 season.
