Report: Keenan Allen could miss time with hip pointer

Los Angeles Chargers star receiver Keenan Allen missed much of Thursday night’s game with what’s now being reported as a hip pointer that could potentially cost him a bit more time on the sideline.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports there was no structural damage found and that the injury is nothing that will affect Allen long term, noting it “could have been much worse.”

Allen has been the team’s main weapon in the passing game all season. He has hauled in 88 passes for 1,074 yards and six touchdowns on the season.

However, when he left Thursday night’s game, Philip Rivers had no issues taking the “next man up” approach. Mike Williams ended up having a monster game, helping lead the Chargers to a rousing come-from-behind win while tallying seven catches for 76 yards, two touchdowns, the game-winning two-point conversion, and a rushing score.

That being said, there’s no doubt the Chargers would rather have Allen back in the fold as soon as possible. At 11-3, there is still work to be done to secure a first-round bye, and potentially the No. 1 seed in the AFC.
