Aaron Rodgers is working toward returning to the field next season, but the New York Jets quarterback may be asked to work in another field altogether this fall.

Per a New York Times report on Tuesday, Rodgers has been approached by independent U.S. presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to possibly serve as Kennedy’s running mate for November’s election.

Rodgers, 40, has “welcomed the overtures,” per the report, which said the former NFL MVP is on a short list of potential VP candidates under Kennedy, the son of former U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy. Former Minnesota governor and pro wrestler Jesse Ventura is also on the list.

Rodgers has previously shown his support for Kennedy, particularly his stance on vaccinations. It’s unknown if Rodgers has been offered the role outright.

The Times cited the veteran signal-caller’s “star power and independent zeal” being potentially beneficial Kennedy in his effort to defeat President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump.

Rodgers missed nearly all of last season with a torn Achilles after being injured on the Jets’ first offensive series of the season.
