Veteran tight end Greg Olsen will not be available for the Carolina Panthers for a while after re-injuring his right foot on Sunday at home against the Dallas Cowboys.
Mike Garafolo of NFL Network is reporting Olsen is “expected to miss a significant chunk of time,” noting that “evaluations are ongoing to see how long he’s out but it’s clear he’ll be down a while.”
Olsen has been Cam Newton’s most consistent weapon since arriving on the scene by way of Chicago back in 2011. Since that time, he’s hauled in 447 passes for 5,608 yards and 33 touchdowns.
This injury will put more pressure on the team’s other playmakers to step up and keep the passing game running smoothly. Rookie Ian Thomas should get some action now, and fellow rookie D.J. Moore might start to see some more snaps after a very light workload in Week 1.
