Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson could be out a while after injuring his wrist in Week 1 against the Detroit Lions.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the running back is visiting with specialists and could opt to have surgery.

Whatever is decided going forward, it appears the Cardinals will be without Johnson for a while. On Sunday, Chris Mortensen reported he could be out for up to half the season or more.

Before getting injured Sunday, Johnson was on his way to having a nice game. He had tallied 92 total yards on 17 touches. Last year he went for 2,118 total yards and is widely regarded as one of the league’s best all-purpose running backs.

This injury will put more of an onus on the Cardinals protecting Carson Palmer, who had an atrocious performance himself in Week 1. Kerwynn Williams and Andre Ellington will see their workloads increase going forward as well.
