After spending more than half of the season in Triple-A Iowa, outfielder Ian Happ might finally be on the verge of returning to the majors.

According to Tommy Birch of The Des Moines Register, Happ is expected to be called up by Chicago in the next 36 hours to get his second chance in the majors.

The 24-year-old has played 99 games for Triple-A Iowa this season as Chicago attempted to let him figure things out in the minors before an eventual return. During that time, Happ posted a .242/.364/..432 slash line with 16 home runs, nine stolen bases and he struck out in 26.3 percent of his plate appearances.

Happ started to turn things around as of late at the plate, which likely prompted the reported promotion. He owns a .324/.451/.608 slash in July with a 1.059 OPS and cut his strikeout rate down to 20.9 percent with an impressive 18.7 percent walk rate.

Chicago will likely take advantage of Happ’s defensive versatility with appearances in the outfield and at second base. The club needs an upgrade at second base and is looking to make changes after sending down Addison Russell.
