Report: Cost to trade for Lions All-Pro Darius Slay incredibly low

It was reported earlier on Monday that the Detroit Lions have engaged other teams about the possibility of trading All-Pro cornerback Darius Slay.

Given Slay’s body of work, common logic seemed to suggest that Detroit’s asking price would be a first-round pick.

According to Ryan O’Halloran of the Denver Post, that’s not the case. One executive around the NFL believes that it will take a second or third-round pick to pry the 29-year-old Slay from the Lions.

If that is indeed the case, the expectation here is that Slay’s market will be pretty darn big.

Sure teams have to worry about his asking price in an extension. The three-time Pro Bowler is looking to become the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL.

Even then, $15-plus million annually as well as a second or third rounder seems to be pennies on the dollar.

Slay has recorded 56 passes defended and 13 interceptions over the past three seasons, earning a Pro Bowl nod each year.
