The Los Angeles Clippers acquired Isaiah Thomas in the trade that garnered them Marcus Morris, but the veteran guard was released Saturday, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Following the trade that sent Thomas to Los Angeles, it was reported that the Clippers would buyout Thomas’ contract. So this is in no way a surprise. He never figured into their plans and was always just a financial piece in the deal that landed Morris.
The veteran point guard will likely land on his feet soon enough. Despite not being the same type of dominating playmaker that he was before his hip injury, Thomas still holds value as a backup.
