Report: Chiefs releasing Jamaal Charles

The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly releasing running back Jamaal Charles, who missed most of last season with a knee injury.

This move isn’t particularly surprising, though it conspicuously comes just weeks after general manager John Dorsey said he saw Charles remaining with the club in 2017.

Set to count $6.2 million against the cap, Charles’ value no longer merits such pay, and the team got by very well without him last year with Spencer Ware running the ball.

Still, given his outstanding track record of production before the ACL injury that derailed his career — 7,260 yards and 43 touchdowns on the ground, 2,457 yards and 20 touchdowns as a receiver — one has to believe Charles will land on his feet barring another health setback.
