Report: Cardinals talking with QB Blaine Gabbert

By Rachel Wold

Free agent quarterback Blaine Gabbert has reportedly been in talks with the Arizona Cardinals according to the Houston Chronicle‘s Aaron Wilson.

Gabbert most recently spent three seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, starting a total of 13 games in the process.

He was awarded the starting job, replacing quarterback Colin Kaepernick mid-way through the 2015 season. He then lost his starting privileges after putting up a 1-4 record at the start of the 2016 year.

At a mere 27 years old, Gabbert would make for a serviceable backup beyond veteran starter Carson Palmer. He is not the best option in a the dwindling pool of free agents, but he is not the worst.

The Cardinals currently have Drew Stanton and second-year quarterback Zac Dysert on their depth chart. They failed to select any rookies in the draft.

Gabbert is a former first-round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars from back in 2011.
