Payton II has been making his bones in the NBA’s D-League playing with Rio Grande Valley. In 48 games this year, the point guard averaged 14.2 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.
Originally an undrafted free agent out of Oregon State by way of Salt Lake City Community College, Payton II signed on with the Houston Rockets before the 2016-17 season but was ultimately released before the season began.
He’s following in his father’s footsteps in a way, as Gary Payton played with the Bucks during the 2002-03 season.
