Report: Browns and Bengals have discussed A.J. McCarron trade

By Rachel Wold

Round 1 of the 2017 NFL draft is complete and the Cleveland Browns have yet to add a another quarterback to the mix.

The latest target of trade discussion appears to be Cincinnati Bengals backup quarterback A.J. McCarron. Unfortunately for the Browns, it doesn’t seem like they can afford the Bengals’ asking price.

Hall of Fame executive Bill Polian recently said that McCarron is clearly better than any quarterback in this year’s draft class.

Prior to the draft, the Bengals said they would entertain offers for McCarron. As for the Browns, they have also pursued New England Patriots backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. But the Patriots seem intent on keeping Garoppolo in town.

During Thursday night’s draft, Cleveland was also rumored to have reached out to the Washington Redskins, inquiring about quarterback Kirk Cousins.

Sadly, the Browns find themselves in an endless pursuit of an upgrade at quarterback. They currently house second-year signal caller Cody Kessler and former Houston Texans free-agent bust Brock Osweiler.

In the Browns’ defense, they really can’t be too scrutinized for at least trying to acquire some better talent. Whether they eventually will succeed is the million dollar question.
